A court on Thursday sentenced popular Iranian singer Parastu Ahmadi and eight members of her team to 74 lashes and a two-year ban on leaving the country for performing an online concert without a hijab. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the DPA agency and The Guardian newspaper.

In December 2024, Ahmadi performed an online concert on the YouTube platform with her group, violating several Iranian laws. Public concerts by female performers are banned in the Islamic Republic, and Ahmadi even performed without a hijab and dressed in a dress.
The court stated in the judgment that the group spread “vulgar and immoral content” on the Internet. The singer can still appeal against the court’s verdict. The recording of the concert currently has almost three million views on YouTube.
Protests by Iranian women against strict Islamic laws have intensified in the country in recent years. In 2022, crowds of people took to the streets to protest repressive regulations under the slogan “woman, life, freedom”. Demonstrations were violently suppressed.
