Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Kac declared on Sunday that Israeli forces have the order to act against any threat they encounter on the territory of Lebanon. At the same time, he insisted that the soldiers remain in the so-called security zone established on Lebanese territory. TASR informs about this according to the report of the AFP agency.
- Israeli forces are ordered to act against any threat in Lebanon.
- The Israeli army plans to remain in the security zone on Lebanese territory.
- The security zone in Lebanon is considered by the government there to be an illegal occupation.
- Iran is making broader negotiations with Washington conditional on an end to the war between Israel and Hezbollah.
“For IDF soldiers in Lebanon, there has never been, and is not currently, any restriction in terms of interventions to eliminate threats… As (Israeli) Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I have made clear: Israel will not withdraw from the security zone in Lebanon,” Kac said in a statement, referring to an area extending approximately ten kilometers into the interior of Lebanese territory where Israeli forces are deployed.
Lebanon accuses Israel of violating international law
At the same time, the Lebanese government refers to the area controlled by Israel as illegally occupied state territory, which, according to Beirut, is in violation of international law. The bilateral framework agreement between Iran and the USA envisages a complete end to military conflicts in the region – and thus also in Lebanon. Israel also accuses Hezbollah itself of repeated violations of the ceasefire, writes the DPA agency.
Kaka’s statements came shortly after Iran warned it would not enter talks on a broader deal with Washington unless the war between Israeli troops and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militant movement in Lebanon ends, AFP recalls.
Iran announced on Sunday that the main topic of the negotiations in Switzerland will be the ceasefire in Lebanon.
