The referee for the match between Brazil and Scotland, on Wednesday (24), will be Mexican Cesar Ramos, FIFA (International Football Federation) announced this Sunday (21). The World Cup Group C game will be in Miami, in the United States.
The refereeing team will have two more Mexicans, assistants Alberto Morin and Marco Bisguerra and Norwegians Espen Eskas (fourth referee) and Jan Erik Engan (VAR).
Ramos has already refereed the 2-2 draw between Iran and New Zealand in Los Angeles in this World Cup.
At the World Cup in 2018, he was criticized by Brazilian fans, after the team drew 1-1 against Switzerland, Rostov, in Russia.
In a dispute for the ball in the area, Zuber moved defender Miranda and scored Switzerland’s equalizer. The Mexican saw no foul in the move and, in the reaction of the Brazilian fans, it even fell to a Gaucho Stock Car driver of the same name, who had his social networks flooded with insults. In Qatar, in 2022, he refereed three games, including Morocco’s 2-0 victory over Belgium in the group stage.
Last year, he starred in a curious scene during the Club World Cup. When sending off Argentine Nicolás Figal, from Boca Juniors, in a match against Benfica, the referee displayed, along with the red card, an image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, patron saint of Mexico.
With the victory over Haiti on Friday (19), the Brazilian team reached four points and took the lead in Group C of the World Cup, with a two-goal advantage over Morocco – which scored 1-0 in Scotland.
In the final round of the group, in addition to Brazil’s match with Scotland, Morocco will face Haiti, in Atlanta.
