Polish President Karol Nawrocki warns of an explosion of childlessness in Europe. According to him, future economic growth is not possible without reversing the demographic crisis.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki declared at the Poland future summit on Monday that the demographic crisis represents one of the key challenges for the future of the country and the whole of Europe, which has experienced an explosion of childlessness. According to him, it is not possible to maintain economic growth or security in the long term without reversing unfavorable demographic trends. The Warsaw correspondent TASR informs about it.
In short:
- Polish President Karol Nawrocki called the demographic crisis a fundamental threat to Europe
- Sustaining economic growth and security depends on reversing demographic trends
- Nawrocki sees the causes of the crisis in cultural and social changes supporting childlessness
“It will not be possible to build a strong, safe and developing state without overcoming the demographic crisis, which today affects the entire continent, Poland and all our regions,” he said. He added that without stopping the decline in the number of inhabitants, several successes achieved in the field of economic development and security may be threatened in the future.
Cultural changes and crisis
He identified cultural and social changes as one of the causes of unfavorable development. “There has been an explosion of childlessness throughout Europe, and the initiative of the president or politicians alone will not stop the demographic crisis,” he said. He emphasized that the problem affects the whole society and requires a change in the way of thinking about family and parenting.
The President rejected replacing natural population development with migration. “I would like it to be clearly heard at this summit that the solution for Poland is not to give in to migration pressure, but to clearly stand up for the Polish family and for legal solutions that will fight the demographic crisis within our own society,” he said. According to him, several Western European countries failed to solve the consequences of population decline through migration policy.
Impact of individualism
In the end, he also criticized the growing individualism and the crisis of men’s ability to take responsibility for the family. According to Nawrocký, it is also disturbing that today we often cannot put down the phone and spend time with another person, but at the same time we expect people to be willing to sacrifice comfort and part of their lives for marriage and children.
The Poland future summit conference in Warsaw brought together the world’s leading demographers, sociologists, and economists, who in lectures and discussions will present their views on solutions to the demographic crisis and building a resilient economy in the future.
