The United States Southern Command (Southcom) reported having carried out a “lethal kinetic attack” against a vessel suspected of involvement in drug trafficking in the Caribbean on Sunday, 21. The offensive left two dead and another six men adrift at sea.
“After the confrontation, Southcom immediately notified the US Coast Guard to activate the Search and Rescue system for survivors. No US military forces were injured,” the agency said in a publication on X.
Around 190 people have died since the United States government began attacking vessels allegedly engaged in drug trafficking in the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean in September.
