Colombian tourist charged with racial slur

Civil Police asked for the name of the person being investigated to be included on the Interpol red list after she left Brazil the day after the episode

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro indicted a Colombian tourist accused of offering a banana to a black capoeirista during a performance in Rocinha, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro. The case occurred on May 26, 2026 and is being investigated as a racial slur.

In addition to the indictment, the corporation requested the inclusion of the foreigner’s name on the Interpol red list. The measure was requested after the person being investigated left Brazil the day after the episode, on May 27.

The Civil Police assesses that the suspect’s departure from the country occurred before possible criminal liability, and called Interpol to try to locate her.

According to the investigation, security camera footage recorded the woman trying to put a banana in the bag used by capoeiristas to collect contributions from the public after a performance. The group responsible for the circle reported the case to the authorities on May 28.

The tourist was part of a tour with 14 other Colombians who were visiting the community. According to reports from members of the capoeira group, the woman tried to give the fruit to the person responsible for collecting donations and left the place after the presentation.
