Brazil has a record 42 million passengers on domestic flights

Brazil registered a record number of domestic passenger movements from January to May 2026, with 42 million people on flights across the country. The number represents an increase of 6% compared to the 39.8 million passengers recorded in the same period in 2025. It is the first time that the country has surpassed this mark for the period.

The isolated result in May 2026 was also a record. In the month, 8.31 million passengers traveled on domestic flights, a volume 2% higher than the 8.16 million in May 2025. This movement is the largest for the month since the beginning of the historical series, which started in 2000. The data from the Ministry of Tourism were released this Monday (June 22, 2026) by the (National Civil Aviation Agency).

The Minister of Tourism, stated that the indicators reflect the moment of growth of the sector in the country, driven by the increase in confidence and income of the population. According to Feliciano, the increase in the number of flights boosts the hotel industry, commerce and the restaurant sector, which generates jobs from the capitals to smaller tourist municipalities.

Feliciano stated that the results are the result of structuring destinations, promoting national routes and partnerships to expand access to travel. According to the minister, tourism works as a sustainable economic engine and the government will continue working to encourage more Brazilians to travel around the country.

In the international market, the flow of passengers also grew. From January to May 2026, the country registered 12.8 million travelers on flights abroad, an increase of 10% compared to the 11.6 million recorded in the same period in 2025.

Analyzing just the month of May, the movement of international passengers increased by 5%, going from 2.13 million in 2025 to 2.23 million in 2026. The numbers of international passengers in 2026 are the highest ever recorded for the series, both in the 5-month period and in the monthly period for May.
