Center updates service protocol; virtual environment rises to 5th position among places of violence against women
The number of incidents of violence against women recorded in digital environments by Dial 180 increased by 188.6% in the first 5 months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Records went from 5,795 to 16,725 incidents, according to data from the Ministry of Women.
The digital space went from 7th to 5th position among the scenarios that concentrate the highest number of complaints in the country. One of the changes implemented by the reporting channel was the training of attendants.
The initiative is part of the “Digital is Our Place” campaign, aligned with the Brazilian National Pact Against Feminicide and decrees 12,975 and 12,976.
The Minister of Women, Márcia Lopes, told journalists, this Monday (June 22, 2026), that the increase in cases is due to the improvement of mechanisms for recording and monitoring incidents.
According to the minister, expanding records helps the government to formulate more precise public policies. “Having reality data is very important. We will only get the answers right by governments, by public policies, when we have more realism in the information”these.
Currently, around 30% of calls made by Dial 180 result in formal complaints. The remainder corresponds to requests for guidance on rights, service channels and protection measures. In 2025, the center recorded more than 1 million calls.
The protocol update includes specific training for attendants to recognize cases of:
- virtual stalking;
- account hacking;
- unauthorized disclosure of intimate images;
- online blackmail;
- use of artificial intelligence to create deepfakes.
The professionals also began to guide victims on preserving digital evidence, activating the platforms and recording police reports.
The training of Dial 180 operators also began to include cases of gender-based political violence and attacks carried out in digital environments, especially during electoral periods.
According to the minister, the ministry has also targeted actions at young women in the face of the growth of misogynistic content disseminated in digital communities known as “machosphere”.
Complaints received are forwarded to the competent bodies, mainly the State security forces. The average time for analyzing and sending cases is 43 hours.
CRIMINALIZATION OF MISOGYNY
The Minister of Women defended the approval of the bill that criminalizes misogyny, currently being processed in the Chamber.
“Criminalization opens up spaces for us to include in our campaigns that misogyny is a crime. This means that we can dialogue with all other public policies so that they insert this within a new conception and change in culture”he declared.
