Staff will act against deforestation, illegal mining, invasions and forest fires
The Ministry of Justice authorized the use of the National Public Security Force in support of the (Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation) for 90 days. The measure was taken (Official Gazette of the Union) this Tuesday (June 23, 2026).
The work will be focused on environmental protection actions in areas under the institute’s responsibility, with a focus on combating deforestation, illegal mining and timber extraction, invasions of federal areas and forest fires.
According to the ordinance, operations in the Legal Amazon will be part of the Amazon Plan: Security and Sovereignty (Amas Plan).
Logistical support will be the responsibility of ICMBio, which will provide the necessary infrastructure for the National Force to operate. The mobilized personnel will be defined by the Directorate of the National Public Security Force, linked to the National Public Security Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice.
