NEW YORK, June 23 (Reuters) – United States President Donald Trump will be present to present the World Cup final trophy on July 19 at the New York-New Jersey Stadium, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said on Tuesday.
Infantino has cultivated an increasingly friendly relationship with Trump and in December awarded him the first FIFA Peace Prize, which he created himself, as Trump seeks the sporting spotlight.
“We will be together with the president enjoying the final and presenting the trophy to the winner, of course, together,” Infantino said on the “Fox and Friends” television program.

FIFA said it would not comment beyond Infantino’s statements on television.
Trump was met with boos and applause when he presented the trophy to Club World Cup winners Chelsea last year, and stood among the team during the trophy lifting ceremony, to the confusion of some players, at the same stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Since then, he’s watched the US Open men’s final in tennis, the Ryder Cup in golf and the NBA finals in the greater New York area, which he once called home.
The World Cup is underway in the USA, Canada and Mexico, with the tournament final scheduled for the stadium in New York and New Jersey.
