The former president () gave a statement this Tuesday (23) to the Federal District about the weapon registered in his name last week.
According to lawyer Paulo da Cunha Bueno, the statements reaffirmed what had already been said by the defense, without additions or divergences. Last Wednesday (17), the former president’s defense admitted that he asked for a pistol to be repaired after finding a fault.

The 9mm Glock pistol was used on the night of June 15 by a Bolsonaro security guard, approached during a checkpoint in the Federal District. Moraes asked for “the reason why the convict kept a firearm at home, with a spare magazine” and why, on the eve of the closure of the home, he had requested repairs.
According to the defense informed the Supreme Court, “the sole purpose of the delivery of the weapons was to seek assistance in identifying the failure and carrying out the necessary maintenance.” The demonstration highlighted that, despite the decision, “no delivery of weapons, cancellation of registrations or any similar measure was determined.” Attached to the process, the weapon’s registration certificate is from 2019.
“Recently, the petitioner found, by simply activating the bolt, without any need for firing, that the mechanism was not working regularly”, say the lawyers. “Unable to identify the cause of the problem, he handed the weapon to Mr. Estácio Leite da Silva Filho, a second sergeant in the Army with experience in weapons, so that he could verify what had happened.”
Moraes ordered the lawyers to clarify “why, on the eve of the end of the 90-day period granted as humanitarian house arrest, the convict requested repairs to the weapons.” According to an interlocutor of the minister, the explicit mention of the end of the deadline is a bad sign for Bolsonaro.
Furthermore, the magistrate suggests that court orders may be being disregarded, since search procedures are mandatory for cars leaving Bolsonaro’s house, and the president’s gun was spotted with a third party 33 kilometers away from the condominium.
The PM responded to Moraes that it scans the cabins and trunks of vehicles leaving Bolsonaro’s residence, but that the cars used by security guards are parked on public roads and do not enter the garage, “which is why they are not subject to inspections.”
Violation of precautionary measures is an argument frequently used by Moraes to revoke benefits, as occurred on the occasions when Bolsonaro or when the former president tried to break the electronic ankle bracelet with an ankle bracelet, last November.
