Lula decides on Jaques Wagner, but I would choose to replace him, says Marinho

The Minister of Labor and Employment, Luiz Marinho (PT), stated this Wednesday, 24, that it would be understandable for the government leader in the Senate, Senator Jaques Wagner (PT-BA), to temporarily leave his position while the Federal Police (PF) investigate suspicions involving his relationship with former banker Daniel Vorcaro, within the scope of investigations related to Banco Master.

A party companion of Jaques Wagner for decades, Marinho highlighted that he has respect for the senator’s role in the government’s political articulation in Congress and stated that he does not know what President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) decision will be. Still, he said that, in his personal assessment, the temporary replacement of the government leadership in the Senate would be justifiable.

“Sometimes, a person has to leave their position to defend themselves. Suddenly, it is justified to leave the leadership and the president appoints another leader. That’s what I would do. I’m talking about a personal assessment. It’s President Lula who decides”, he told journalists, during an event announcing the Annual Social Information List (Rais) – Monthly, at the Ministry’s headquarters, in Brasília (DF).

Marinho also said that he contacted Jaques Wagner after the PF operation to express solidarity and avoid any early judgment.

“I called Jaques the day after the operation to express my solidarity, because I know he suffered devastation in 2018 and his innocence was proven. I hope that, in fact, there is absolutely nothing in relation to him in the Master case.
