Detained in the USA, Maduro calls for unity after earthquakes in Venezuela

The former president of Venezuela (PSUV, left), since January, on Wednesday (June 24, 2026) a message of solidarity with the victims of those who hit Venezuela and have already caused . The text, attributed to him and , was published in a note with the title “Message of solidarity to the population of Venezuela”.

Maduro said he and Cilia pray for the affected families, the injured and for all of Venezuela. “Today the word is one: maximum union, maximum solidarity and maximum action”he declared.

The former president asked communities to take care of children, the elderly and sick people. He defended support for the work of rescue teams, the PNB (Bolivarian National Police), the FANB (Bolivarian National Armed Force), civil protection, doctors, firefighters, workers and volunteers.

“In this difficult time, we call for national unity, serenity and concrete love: to help, protect, share, lift and rebuild”declared Maduro. He said Venezuela faced “great trials” and which will also overcome this “with faith, discipline and solidarity”.

Maduro and Cilia were taken by US forces on January 3, during an operation in Caracas, and taken to New York. (PSUV) temporarily took over the Venezuelan government.

The earthquakes that hit Venezuela left at least 32 dead and more than 700 injured, according to a report released by Delcy Rodríguez. The number does not yet include any victims in La Guaira, a coastal state neighboring Caracas and identified by the Venezuelan government as the region most affected by the tremors.

Delcy said that La Guaira had “dozens of collapsed buildings” and classified the State as “disaster zone”. The Venezuelan government suspended classes and non-essential public service activities and reported that it had made hotels and shelters available to people who lost their homes or had their properties compromised by the earthquakes.
