The American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, announced this Thursday (25) thatthat the possible Iranian toll on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz would set a precedent to other navigable routes in the world and could trigger a “total chaosl”.
“International waterways do not belong to any State. This is a fundamental principle in today’s world, without which the world would be plunged into total chaos,” he declared at a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Bahrain.
Furthermore, Rubio added that “if we in fact accept that you can charge money for the use of an international waterway just because it is close to your territorial space, so this will spread around the world like some kind of contagion”.
