The government of Caracas released images of the first efforts of security forces in the places destroyed by the earthquakes that hit the country on Wednesday night (June 24, 2026). Government says that more than 700 injured people were treated in public hospitals and private health centers. Classes and non-essential public service activities have been suspended
The country’s president, Delcy Rodríguez, said that all health professionals in Venezuela must report immediately to their jobs to reinforce care in public and private networks. She also announced the creation of a US$200 million fund, with resources from the IMF (International Monetary Fund), to finance reconstruction.

According to the Reutersthe 2 tremors were less than 1 minute apart. The 1st, of magnitude 7.2, hit a region about 160 km west of Caracas. It had a depth of 21.8 km.
The second earthquake, of magnitude 7.5, was recorded 23 km southeast of Yumare and was 10 km deep, according to the USGS (United States Geological Survey).
According to the research institute, the second tremor is considered the largest ever recorded in the country in the last 100 years. The same research institute estimates the probability that the death toll will exceed 10,000 people at 44%.
According to the Reutersthe mobilization of rescuers is intense to locate survivors in collapsed structures across the country. At least 500 emergency teams are working this Thursday (June 25) to remove victims from the rubble.
