Trump accuses Iran of a suicide drone attack on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz. He claims that Tehran broke the truce with the US in a foolish way.

US President Donald Trump on Friday accused Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement with the US. According to him, Tehran attacked ships in the Strait of Hormuz with drones and hit one of them. Iran did not immediately comment. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AP agency.

  • US President Donald Trump accused Iran of violating the ceasefire with the US.
  • Trump claims Iran fired four suicide drones at passing ships.
  • According to Trump, one of the Iranian drones hit a large cargo ship.
  • Trump said the remaining three drones were successfully shot down by US forces.
  • The International Maritime Agency has suspended evacuation operations for ships in the Persian Gulf.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has fired at least four suicide drones at ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. One of the drones hit the top of a large and very expensive cargo ship,” the US president said on his Truth Social network.

Details of the attack

Trump did not say exactly when the alleged attack took place or what vessel it was. It was damaged, he said, but continued sailing. It also claims that the US shot down the other three drones allegedly fired by Iran. “It is clear that this is a flagrant violation of our ceasefire agreement,” he added.

The British Maritime Trade Operations Organization (UKMTO) reported on Thursday that an unknown projectile hit a cargo ship off the coast of Oman and damaged part of its deck.

Consequences and warnings

The attack comes as the United States is negotiating with Iran to reach an agreement that would officially end the war in the Middle East. Tehran has previously threatened ships to stop moving through the Strait of Hormuz without its permission.

Following the vessel’s strike in the strait, the International Maritime Agency (IMO) announced it was suspending operations to evacuate some 600 ships and 11,000 sailors stranded in the Persian Gulf as a result of the Middle East war.
