A stolen cell phone was recovered by PCERJ (Civil Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro) in the Amapá neighborhood, in Paraíba do Sul (RJ), last Tuesday (23), after being located with a young man who bought it believing it had legal origin.
The corporation located the device at the 18-year-old’s residence. During the police approach, he confirmed that he had purchased the cell phone, an iPhone 13 Pro, for R$1,800.00 on the recommendation of acquaintances in the city, believing it to be a legal sale.
The action was carried out following information provided by police officers from the capital of RJ, who tracked the phone’s IMEI and located it in the Amapá neighborhood.
The young man who bought the cell phone was taken to the 107th DP, where he was charged with the crime of negligent reception.
PCERJ investigations showed that the device was offered to the man through messages, just one day after the robbery that occurred in the Realengo neighborhood, in the west zone of Rio, where the robbers approached the victim while they were on a motorcycle, threatening the person with a firearm. The victim was in the presence of his daughter and handed over the device under threat.
During the investigation, the agents identified two individuals, aged 19 and 21, suspected of being involved in the negotiation and sale of the cell phone and who are also residents of Paraíba do Sul.
The police reported that an investigation was launched against the two, to investigate the crimes of qualified reception and criminal association.
PCERJ states that the recovered device was seized and will be returned to the legal owner of the device after the appropriate procedures.
It is also confirmed by the agents that investigations are still ongoing to identify other possible parties involved in the sale of devices of criminal origin in the city.
