The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Saturday, 27th, in a publication on the Truth Social network, that he appointed Lance Schroyer to command Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the agency responsible for monitoring immigration laws. In the text, Trump asks the Senate to confirm the name “immediately”.
In the post, the Republican states that Schroyer has more than 29 years of experience in law enforcement in Oklahoma. According to Trump, Schroyer is a former state trooper and former Marine, and would have led partnerships under the 287(g) program with ICE, which allows agreements to be signed with local and state police so that agents from these forces can begin to act, in a limited way, in immigration enforcement.
Trump also says that the nominee has the capacity to “detain and deport” undocumented immigrants with criminal records “at a rate never seen before” and highlights again that his government has “the highest daily rate of arrests” by ICE and CBP (US Customs and Border Protection), “by far”.
