While ()’s campaign tries to obtain formal support in the presidential contest, the parties announced support for different candidates in Roraima and caused a split in the state’s right.
Roraima went through a supplementary election on Sunday (21) supported by Flávio.
His main opponent, however, was the interim governor, Soldado Sampaio (Republicans), who managed to get the support of the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, from the same party. Tarcísio recorded a video asking Sampaio for votes.
According to members of both parties, the Roraima election should not be part of the process for Flávio to consolidate the alliance with the Republicans.
However, they assess that the division of support causes a split on the right in the state, which could harm Flávio in October.
This is because the support given to Sampaio could eventually take votes away from Jair Bolsonaro’s son and go to another right-wing candidacy, such as ().
Roraima is a majority right-wing state. , Bolsonaro received more than 75% of votes in the state.
There is no fear that Flávio will lose the election in the state, but the concern is that the fragmentation of votes between right-wing candidates will end up strengthening the president (PT).
