The heat has Europe firmly under control. In Spain, France and now also in Austria, temperatures are climbing to values that were considered exceptional just a few decades ago. This is due to a so-called Omega weather situation, which traps hot air over large parts of the continent and sets the summer on a record course at the end of June.
