Big forecast for the beginning of the week: The heat will grip Slovakia, it will be the worst HERE!

Heat warnings will be in effect throughout Slovakia on Monday as well. Temperatures above 33 degrees Celsius are expected. In the west and south of the country, but also in some localities in eastern and central Slovakia it can be over 38 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists have therefore issued warnings of the first, second and third degree on Monday between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) reported about it on the website.

  • Warnings against extreme heat will apply throughout Slovakia on Monday.
  • Children, seniors, pregnant women and the chronically ill are among the most vulnerable groups.

A third level warning has been issued for Monday for the entire Bratislava, Nitra and Trnava regions as well as most of the districts of Banskobystrické, Trenčianske and Košice regions. It also applies to the districts of Snina and Vranov nad Topľou. The maximum air temperature above 38 degrees Celsius is expected in these locations.

The second level warning will cover almost the entire Prešovský and Žilina regions, but also the districts of Gelnica, Spišská Nová Ves, Ilava, Púchov, Považská Bystrica, Banská Bystrica and Brezno. The temperature there can reach more than 35 degrees Celsius. The first level warning applies to the districts of Poprad, Liptovský Mikuláš, Námestovo and Tvrdošín. In these locations, there is a risk of temperatures higher than 33 degrees Celsius.

The Office of Public Health (ÚVZ) of the Slovak Republic warns in connection with temperatures that the risk groups of the population include children, the elderly, pregnant women and chronically ill people, especially people with cardiovascular, respiratory or mental diseases or who are overweight. “High outside temperatures can cause overheating of the body and health complications – increase in body temperature, malaise, drowsiness, headaches, dizziness, nausea or vomiting. “Extreme cases are serious collapse states, which can lead under certain conditions to possible deaths of people, especially for risk groups,” warns ÚVZ.

According to him, an important principle is consistent adherence to a regular drinking regimen, even if thirst does not appear. Physical activity should also be limited, stay out of direct sunlight and stay outside to a minimum. Paramedics recommend a lighter diet during the heat, proper clothing including head coverings and sunglasses, and the use of protective creams. Children and pets must not be left in direct sunlight or in parked cars. If people experience severe weakness, dizziness, nausea or collapse, they should seek help. High temperatures and drought significantly increase the risk of fires.
