Brazil will continue as the only penta for at least another 4 years; understand

Brazil will remain the only country to win the World Cup five times for at least another four years. With the elimination of four-time champion Germany in the first round of the knockout stage of the competition, no other, which still survives in the World Cup, has four titles and will be able to match Brazil’s mark.

Germany lost on penalties to Paraguay this Monday (29) and fell before the round of 16. The Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill managed to grab two attempts and, although the Germans managed to equalize, in alternating kicks the South American team managed to win 4-3.

Besides Germany, only Italy has four World Cup cups. The Italian team, however, did not even qualify to compete in the World Cup. With three titles, Argentina comes next with the most trophies.

See all the countries that have won the World Cup:

  • Brazil: 5 titles (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002)
  • Germany: 4 titles (1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014)
