Railways of the Slovak Republic (ŽSR) on Tuesday evening they canceled the track speed limit on the tracks affected by very high temperatures. According to the manager of the railway infrastructure, extreme heat is no longer being reported for the next few days.
“If level 3 heat alerts occur again during the summer, we will re-introduce precautionary measures to maintain safe rail operations,” stated ŽSR. Slovakia faced extreme heat in recent days. In some places, the temperature exceeded 40 degrees Celsius. In the areas most affected by high temperatures, ŽSR limited the speed of trains as a precaution. Passengers had to expect delays. The reason for the measure was the effect of heat on the rails.
