Chamber Committee approves motion to repudiate Lula’s minister: “Militant”

In a session this Wednesday (1st), the Foreign Relations and National Defense Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved a request that called for a motion of repudiation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Chancellor Mauro Vieira.

The request was presented by the deputy Luiz Philippe of Orleans and Bragança (PL-SP) and signed by the deputy Sergeant Fahur (PL-PR).

The rapporteur cites in his request a statement in which they had worked with the United States in favor of a new 25% tariff on Brazilian imports.

The rapporteur condemns the ministry’s critical targeting of parliamentarians and the supposed promotion of “an ideological agenda to the detriment of technical rigor and pragmatic negotiation”in negotiations with the United States.

After Washington’s report, communication from Palácio do Planalto sought to link the price to the senator and pre-candidate for the Presidency Flávio Bolsonaro (PL).

.

“In clear disagreement with the standards of professional diplomacy, Itamaraty’s official notes have used inappropriate language, incompatible with the dignity and decorum required of the Brazilian chancellery, compromising its institutional credibility”, states Luiz Philippe de Orleans e Bragança.

The request was approved with a single vote against, from the deputy Arlindo Chinaglia (PT-SP)who presented a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the session.

In this, the ministry says the following: “The country conducts its foreign relations based on dialogue, negotiation and respect for international law, but does not abdicate the sovereign prerogative to defend its positions when faced with measures that it considers to be contrary to its interests.”

Finally, Itamaraty lists the promotion of, in addition to those between Chancellor Mauro Vieira and the American Secretary of State, Marco Rubioas measures to resolve the conflict.

“The characterization of this action as militant or ideologized disregards the fact that the instruments used were exactly those recognized and used by sovereign states to protect its commercial and economic interests in the face of unilateral measures adopted by other countries”, concludes the note from Itamaraty.
