It’s hard to believe: Meteorologists set records for the minimum air temperature at the end of June!

In June of this year, records of the minimum air temperature were recorded – the warmest nights in the history of meteorological measurements in Slovakia. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informed about it on its website. According to meteorologists, the first records occurred already at the beginning of the last weekend in June.

  • In June 2026, Slovakia recorded record warm nights in the history of measurements.
  • Hot tropical air from southwestern Europe brought extreme temperatures to central Europe.

“In the last decade of this year’s June, hot air of tropical origin flowed through southwestern and western Europe into central Europe. As a result of this situation, records of air temperature characteristics were recorded in several countries of Western Europe, and gradually this also happened in Central Europe, not excluding Slovakia“, SHMÚ stated.

As he approached, in Slovakia, the first June records of air temperature characteristics occurred at the minimum air temperature already at the beginning of the last weekend in June this year. In the following days, according to the institute, records of the average daily air temperature for the month of June followed.

Meteorologists noted that on June 27 of this year, the minimum air temperature at the weather station Bratislava, Koliba dropped to a record 26.3 degrees Celsius. “This value of this air temperature characteristic is the highest in the month of June since 1951 within the SHMÚ meteorological network. On this day, the minimum air temperature at the Malý Javorník meteorological station dropped to 24.9 degrees Celsius, which is the sixth highest value of this characteristic in the month of June at least since 1951 recorded within the SHMÚ meteorological network“, they added.

According to meteorologists, the previous all-Slovak minimum air temperature record for June was recorded at the Kuchyňa meteorological station on June 25 of this year, namely 25 degrees Celsius. Again, record values of the minimum air temperature were recorded on June 29 of this year, where the minimum air temperature dropped to 25.8 degrees Celsius at the meteorological station Bratislava, Koliba. According to SHMÚ, this is the second highest value of this characteristic in the month of June at least since 1951. but also, for example, at the Malý Javorník meteorological station, where the minimum air temperature dropped to 25.6 degrees Celsius. which is overall, according to the institute, the third highest value of this characteristic in the month of June and the highest at this meteorological station in June.

At the same time, SHMÚ informed that in June this year, a high number of tropical nights was recorded, especially in the area of southwestern Slovakia. “As of June 29, 2026, we recorded the highest number of tropical nights at the meteorological station Bratislava, Koliba (11 tropical nights)which is the most in the month of June at least since 1951. At the weather station Malý Javorník there were up to seven tropical nights in June 2026, Bratislava, the airport and Veľké Lovce six tropical nights.
