The Republican National Guard intercepted an illegal race on Highway 12, between Pinhal Novo and Mitrena, during the early hours of last Saturday, in an operation that resulted in the identification of several drivers and the seizure of seven vehicles.
According to the GNR, the vehicles reached speeds close to 240 kilometers per hour, values confirmed through measuring equipment used by the authorities.
The operation included prior surveillance, and the military followed the group before the start of the race. In total, drivers aged between 25 and 35 were identified, residents of the São Paulo Metropolitan Region.
Despite police intervention, the participants still started the race, ending up being quickly intercepted.
Authorities also say some of the drivers tried to flee but were detained at the scene. Several infraction notices were drawn up and the seven vehicles were seized, which had mechanical and software changes, as well as the removal of components to reduce weight and increase performance.
The cars will now be subject to technical inspection to determine irregularities.
