Pick-up truck that attacked crowd in New Orleans
Truck plowed into a crowd during New Year celebrations. Driver got out of the vehicle and started shooting.
At least 10 people died and 30 were injured this Wednesday, after a pick-up directed against a crowd na Bourbon Street, em New Orleans, according to the North American city’s emergency agency.
The attack took place in the busy French Quarter, during the early hours of the morning, in the middle of New Year celebrations.
The North American media cited several witnesses who stated that the pick-up drove at high speed into the crowd; then the driver got out of the vehicle, started shooting a gun and the police also responded with gunfire.
Information cited by news agencies states that two police officers were shot and injured.

According to , the pick-up used in the attack – with Texas license plate – crossed the border with Mexico two days ago. But it is not known whether the person driving in the attack was also the person driving the vehicle when it crossed the border. Police also did not confirm the attacker’s immigration status.
In a brief press conference, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell called it a “terrorist attack” while authorities are still investigating what happened.
Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick told the press that the attack he was intentional and that the driver was “strongly determined to cause carnage.” He also stated that authorities are working to ensure the safety of the Sugar Bowl.
O FBI is also investigating what happened as an act of terrorism. The head of the city’s FBI department, Alethea Duncan, said authorities are also analyzing the discovery of at least one alleged explosive device no local.
