Locals and firefighters breathed a sigh of relief: the forest fire in Valaská Bela was extinguished

It took more than 24 hours for members of the Fire and Rescue Service (HaZZ) to extinguish a forest fire in the village of Valaská Belá in the district of Prievidza. The elimination of the fire for TASR was confirmed on Sunday by the spokeswoman of the Presidium of HaZZ Zuzana Geguššová.

A helicopter of the Slovak Ministry of Defense UH – 60M Black Hawk was used to extinguish the fire. “The forest fire in the hard-to-reach terrain, which broke out on Saturday afternoon, was extinguished after 12 matches using bambi bagswhile 30,000 liters of water were consumed,” said Geguššová.

She added that at the event 29 professional firefighters and several dozen volunteer firefighters intervened. “We thank dozens of members of volunteer fire brigades from the villages of Valaská Belá, Čavoj, Nitrianske Rudno, Rudnianska Lehota, Nitrica, Diviacka Nová Ves, Horná Poruba, Ilava, Košeca, Košecké Podhradie, Pruské, Zliechov, Beluša, Beluša-Hloža, Lednické Rovne for their cooperation , Omšenie, Trenčianske Teplá, Trenčianske Teplice, Dolná Poruba, Nemšová and Soblahov,” added the spokeswoman of the HaZZ Presidium.
