A microbiologist explains how to wash panties in a washing machine

Although washing underwear in a washing machine seems to be a simple and intuitive task, it is worth remembering that you need to follow a few fundamental rules that will help us take care of personal hygiene. After all, intimate hygiene is very important, and underwear helps prevent infections and irritations. Unfortunately, a huge mistake that many people make is putting panties in with other items of clothing. Always wash panties separately from other clothes, especially kitchen towels, work clothes or heavily soiled clothes. This prevents the transfer of bacteria. The study published in the “Journal of Infection”, led by prof. microbiology at the University of Arizona Charles Gerba, showed that a washed pair of panties can hold up to 10 g of dirt. Therefore, the microbiologist pointed out that only at a temperature of at least 60 degrees Celsius will it effectively kill the microorganisms present on it. Professor Gerba also recommends adding active oxygen, i.e. sodium percarbonate, to washing panties in a washing machine. Why?

Pour 1 tablespoon among dirty laundry and run the washing machine. After washing, it will be hygienically clean

Proper washing of panties will remove all microorganisms from them, so the microbiologist advised adding active oxygen to the washing machine in addition to washing powder. It is extremely effective in killing bacteria, viruses and fungi, which is crucial when washing underwear, bedding and laundry. Helps prevent infections and the spread of microorganisms. Moreover, it perfectly copes with organic stains that often appear on underwear. Therefore, pour one tablespoon of active oxygen between dirty laundry and wash it. After completing the cycle, you will be sure that the panties are hygienically clean.

How to wash underwear to make it hygienically clean?

If you want extra hygiene assurance, you may want to consider pre-soaking your underwear in a solution with a fabric disinfectant before putting them in the washing machine. Another option is to dry your underwear in the sun – UV rays have natural bactericidal properties. However, remember that excessive exposure to the sun may cause colors to fade, so use this method in moderation and for appropriate fabrics.

Washing lace panties. How not to destroy them?

Of course, washing panties in a washing machine should be done in such a way as not to damage the fabrics. One of the most common underwear is to ignore the manufacturer’s recommendations on the labels. Too high a temperature may irreversibly shrink delicate fabrics such as silk or lace, and too strong spinning may destroy their structure. Also avoid using chlorine bleach on colored underwear – it may cause the fibers to fade and weaken. Although a washing machine is convenient, for really delicate lace, silk or embroidered underwear, hand washing may be the best solution. All you need is lukewarm water, a gentle washing liquid and a short, gentle bath. Remember not to wring the underwear too hard – gently squeeze out excess water and dry flat to avoid stretching.
