Opportunity for Lula to respond to crime, says Caiado

The governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União), said that the attack that occurred at Guarulhos airport last week – when a businessman linked to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) was executed during the day – is an “opportunity for the government Lula gives a tough response to the factions.”

The crime occurred last Friday afternoon (8), in Terminal 2 of the airport, when businessman Antônio Vinícius Gritzbach was shot dead by hooded men.

Gritzbach was suspected of ordering the murder of two PCC members; he had become a whistleblower with the Public Ministry; and was accused by the PCC of having embezzled R$100 million from the faction.

“The PCC allows itself the audacity to enter Brazil’s largest airport and execute, with rifle shots, a witness. They act at will, in broad daylight. Either the Brazilian state puts an end to the factions or the factions will take over the Brazilian state once and for all”, said Caiado when commenting on the case on his profile on X, on Saturday (9).

“The attack was committed at Guarulhos International Airport. An area under federal jurisdiction. A crime possibly the result of an accusation about money laundering involving drug trafficking, which is also the responsibility of the federal government”, he added.

The governor also said that in the United States a federal crime of this proportion would be solved by the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation)but in Brazil “the federal government is watching”.

“There is an opportunity for the Lula government to give a tough response to the factions, solving the crime and catching those responsible. For this you don’t need a PEC or tying up the state police. It needs action,” said Caiado.

Also on Saturday, the Federal Police ordered the opening of an investigation at the São Paulo superintendence to investigate the case that occurred at Guarulhos airport.

PEC of Security

When participating in the meeting called by the Lula government, at the end of last month, to present the Public Security PEC, Caiado harshly criticized the proposal and said that the initiative is an attempt to “usurpation of power” from the states.

During the meeting, Caiado also said that he will not accept “orders from the Federal Government”. According to the governor, “autonomy is needed to legislate on the penal code”.
