Supported by Acre deputies, Hugo Motta is elected mayor in Brasilia

In a session marked by heated discussions and political articulations, Deputy Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB) was elected on Thursday (February 1) President of the Chamber of Deputies for the 2025-2026 biennium. The election took place formally, with the presence of deputies of various subtitles who participated in the choice of the new leader of the Legislative House.

Motta had the declared support of two Acre deputies: Socorro Neri (PP) and Eduardo Velloso (UB). The others did not speak.

Hugo Motta, who has worked as vice-mayor, obtained most of the votes, surpassing his competitors in the dispute. With his election, he takes command of the House at an important political moment, with challenges both inside and in relations with the executive and the Senate.

The election was marked by a democratic process, in which the deputies chose their leader for the period that extends until 2026. Motta’s victory represents the consolidation of a political articulation that involved several benches and parties. The Paraiban parliamentarian stood out for his experience and the ability to negotiate within Parliament, which earned him the confidence of most of his colleagues.
