Ukraine has reached an agreement with a neighboring country for the development of “strategic weapons.” According to sources from the Ukrainian Executive, it is a preliminary agreement, for which Lithuania -border -border with Russia -will develop with kyiv this type of weapons in Lithuanian lands.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania through the holder of the portfolio, Dovile Sakaliene, and Ukraine, through the main advisor of the president of Ukraine in strategic matters, Oleksandr Kamyshyn, and the strategic industry minister of the attacked country, Herman Smetanin.
“The Ukraine defense industry has an incredible potential to become a world -class actor thanks to its high level of specialization based on direct experience in combat, the motivation and competence of its engineers and the future oriented to the future of the main responsible for making decisions in the industry. However, we are aspiring to even narrower cooperation to develop the joint production of weapons between Lithuania and Ukraine both in Lithuania and Ukraine, ”was the statement signed by the Minister of Defense, Dovilė Šakalienė.
On the other hand, the representative of the Lithuanian Government also assured that his country will continue to invest in the defensive industry of Ukraine, for which he has allocated a 20 million euros package.
Given this, the main advisor of the president of Ukraine in strategic matters, Oleksandr Kamyshyn, said that “we will always be grateful to Lithuania for their support from the first day. And the simultaneous development of the defense industry in Lithuania is an important next step that strengthens the eastern flank of NATO.”
Although they revealed some details of the agreement, they said that for security reasons they cannot reveal more information regarding the type of weapons included in the agreement. Along these lines, they also advanced that representatives of both countries will be seen in future meetings in Lithuania to jointly give the following steps of said agreement.
In the event that it is definitively effective -as expected -it will be a new chapter in the agreements signed between Ukraine and Lithuania, such as the one they reached in 2024 in the field of defense of Ukraine.
Thus, both parties undertake to work together and to implement and support the production of weapons, ammunition and other defense projects.
