In a meeting with PT councilors in the city of Matão (305 km from São Paulo), Edinho stated that Lula’s participation in a meeting with members of CNB (building a new Brazil) on Thursday (6) was one of the president’s largest gestures to keep the unit in the party. However, he continued, the meeting “was leaked to the press as an instrument of internal struggle.”
As showed, Lula was warned by participants in the meeting that there is resistance to Edinho’s name to take over the PT presidency and that he would hardly be elected in July, when the party will hold his own.
At the meeting, which took place at the Apartment of the future Minister of Institutional Relations, (PR), in Brasilia, Lula asked what will be the alternatives to the name of Edinho.
The Senator and Interim President of the PT (PE), the president of the Perseu Abramo Foundation, Paulo Okamoto, Federal Deputy Rui Falcão (SP) and the leader of the government, José Guimarães (CE), for the mission.
This Sunday, Edinho also said that his indignation with the episode does not dismantle him to play the party presidency, but “encourages him to fight for the construction of the party we have to build.”
He said he wants to have Gleisi’s support in the internal election and faced allies to support her the two times she played and won the party’s command, but will understand if she is not the case.
“I will respect if it is not the candidate of Gleisi, because I think this is how it has to be the party. We have to respect the positions that are different from ours,” he said.
The former mayor of Araraquara also stated that personal projects cannot override the collectives and there can be no “the exercise of power by power” in the PT.
“I can go through Brazil as president of the PT from August. But I can go through Brazil as a militant of our party, defending all that I am talking to you. I never needed office to build the PT. In every state that I am called there I will be debating the party we have to build,” he said.
