Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan believes that the war in Ukraine could easily end if the American administration under the leadership of the newly elected President Donald Trump takes the so-called solution-based approach.
Erdogan told the media during the flight on which he was returning to his homeland on Friday from the summit of the European Political Community (EPC) in Budapest, reports TASR according to Reuters. According to the Turkish president, the end of the war in Ukraine can be accelerated by the efforts of Western countries led by the USA.
He believes that Trump can affect the political and military balance in the Middle East
Erdogan also commented on the wars in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. In this context, he expressed his belief that Trump would persuade Israel to “stop” its attacks and indicated that a good start would be to stop arming Israel by the US.
“Trump promised to end the conflicts… We want him to fulfill his promise and to tell Israel to ‘stop,'” Erdogan said. “Trump could stop the arms support provided to Israel, which could be a good start to stop Israeli aggression on Palestinian and Lebanese territories,” he added.
Turkey sharply criticizes Israel for offensives in the Gaza Strip and in Lebanon. Ankara has already suspended trade with the Jewish state and has also asked to join a lawsuit accusing Israel of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which the Jewish state strongly denies.
The Turkish leader believes that Trump as the new US president and his administration will seriously affect the political and military balance in the Middle East. According to him, if the US continued its current policy, the stalemate in this region would deepen and the conflict could expand further.
Erdogan also announced that he invited Trump to visit Turkey. The pair spoke on the phone on Wednesday, as Erdogan congratulated Trump on his electoral success. He said on Friday that the newly elected American president spoke very positively about Turkey in that phone call. He added that Ankara’s cooperation with the new American administration could bring benefits in solving regional crises.
