The index follows the evaluation system in this modality and measures the perception of municipal tourism managers and entrepreneurs in the area through an average based on the following scale:

  • much worse (0);
  • worst (50);
  • equal(100);
  • best (150);
  • much better (200).

A score below 100 indicates a perception of worsening in the segment, while a value above 100 represents an improvement.

In relation to the performance of domestic tourism, in the evaluation by segment, of the 12 that participated in the survey in the 3rd quarter of this year, 10 were above 100 points, and 5 obtained a better evaluation than in the same period last year. Regarding expectations for domestic tourism in the next quarter, all sectors are positive and 6 presented better numbers when compared to the 3rd quarter of 2023.

In the evaluation of international tourism, of the 12 segments surveyed, 9 evaluated the 3rd quarter of 2024 positively, and 10 have good expectations for international tourism.

For the Secretary of Tourism and Travel of SP, Roberto de Lucena, the good performance of segments such as event organization is a reflection of the total resumption of activities in the sector in 2023, after the post-pandemic readjustment period: “The focus on the future is a reflection of all the actions carried out throughout last year and in the first half of this year in the tourism sector. Many major events effectively returned in 2023 and 2024, which heated up the market again and caused confidence in the sector to grow again”.

The study makes it possible to understand the perspectives of the tourism market in relation to the future of the sector. The survey is carried out quarterly, and participants answer how they performed in the last 3 months and what they expect for the next quarter. Information collection was carried out from October 7th to 18th, 2024 in 101 cities in the State.
