Bomb cyclone will not form in southern Brazil, says Inmet

Current weather conditions rule out the possibility of a bomb cyclone forming in Brazilaccording to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).

The phenomenon occurred in the country next Tuesday (12), according to Climatempo. However, it will not happen.

Santa Catarina’s Civil Defense reported that there is no forecast of risk for the state in relation to the cyclone, which will form hundreds of kilometers offshore.

In Santa Catarina, the most significant phenomenon will be the passage of a cold front, with possible storms, gusts of wind and hail.

What is a cyclone?

The are a system of winds that surround a center of low atmospheric pressure that normally forms in the ocean.

In the Southern Hemisphere, the movement of the air mass is clockwise and concentrates moisture in the center of the cyclone, that is, in the area of lowest pressure.

This upward movement of air, which is hot and humid in this area, causes the formation of heavy clouds and has the potential to cause gusts of wind and intense rain on the continent.

And what is the “bomb cyclone”?

A bomb cyclone occurs when there is an abrupt drop in atmospheric pressure over a short periodusually within 24 hours.

This phenomenon is the result of a condition known as “explosive cyclogenesis”, which happens when the pressure at the center of the system drops by at least 24 millibars in 24 hours.

This rapid drop in pressure gives rise to the cyclone in an explosive manner, which can cause intense winds and heavy rain.

The phenomenon is called “bomb cyclone” for the explosive way in which it originates.
