The president (PT) declared that the political situation does not constitute a direct problem for the country. During an interview with Rede TV, Lula expressed his concern about the Venezuelan electoral process, highlighting the lack of confidence in the results announced by the Venezuelan government. At the time of the elections, the advisor for international affairs, Celso Amorim, was in Venezuela with the expectation of receiving the electoral records, which did not happen. For this reason, Brazil, alongside other South American countries, chose not to recognize Maduro’s re-election. Despite this, Lula emphasized that it is not up to Brazil to interfere in the internal issues of another country.

The Brazilian government, according to Lula, is interested in the development of Venezuela, but does not intend to take actions that interfere in its internal affairs. The relationship between Brazil and Venezuela, which was previously closer, has changed, but the president of Brazil seeks to minimize tensions, stating that ties remain. Maduro, in turn, adopted a critical speech in relation to the Brazilian government.
