Two seniors were injured in an accident on a frozen road in Jelšava: Air rescuers also intervened

One person was seriously injured in a traffic accident in Jelšava that occurred on Sunday (November 10). While overtaking on the frozen road, the elderly driver collided with the other vehicle, both subsequently skidded. Air rescuers also intervened on the spot. Petra Kováčiková, spokeswoman for the Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Banská Bystrica, stated this for TASR.

The traffic accident occurred on road II/526 in the cadastre of the city of Jelšava when the 75-year-old driver of a Citroën crashed into the rear of the vehicle he was driving on the frozen road. “As a result, the vehicles should have skidded and become unmanageable. After hitting the counterslope, the Citroën vehicle was left overturned in the ditch on the roof. A second vehicle was left on top of it in its front part,” Kováčiková zoomed in.

In the event of an accident the 75-year-old driver was slightly injured, his 68-year-old female passenger was seriously injured. A rescue helicopter was therefore called to the scene.

“The doctor was dropped directly to the destination by an on-board winch. He took over the care of a patient who suffered chest and upper limb injuries in an accident. After the treatment and supplementing the treatment, the patient was transferred to the helicopter, which landed at the nearest suitable place.” Zuzana Hopjaková, spokeswoman for the Air-Transport Europe helicopter emergency medical service, told TASR that the patient was airlifted to the trauma center of the Košice hospital in a stable condition.
