Diego Forlán and Federico Coria lost 6-1 and 6-2 against Bolivian Boris Aris and Federico Zeballos, in the first round of the ATP Challenger Tour, in Uruguay.
Former footballer Diego Forlán lost on Wednesday in his professional tennis debut, in the Montevideo challenger, after being defeated 2-0, together with Argentine Federico Coria, in the doubles variant of the Uruguayan competition.
Diego Forlán, 45 years old, and Federico Coria lost 6-1 and 6-2 against Bolivians Boris Aris and Federico Zeballos, in the first round of the ATP challenger tour.
At the end of the match, Diego Forlán thanked Federico for accepting the invitation to play alongside him and stated that I knew it was going to be a “difficult” match and that will continue to compete in ITF amateur tournaments.
“I really enjoyed it. I knew that the probability of it being a difficult game for us was very high, so I prepared myself to at least not have a bad time and be able to enjoy the game and that’s what I did”, said the former football player.
The former Uruguayan striker, who was considered the best player and became top scorer of the 2010 World Cuprepresented clubs such as Manchester United, Inter Milan and Atlético de Madrid.
Since retired from football in 2019Diego Forlán has participated in amateur tennis tournaments and had some success, which earned him an invitation to play in the biggest professional tournament in Uruguay.
