The alleged attack comes on the day that Vladimir Putin approved the update of nuclear doctrine in Russia, which authorizes the widespread use of nuclear weapons
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed this Tuesday that Ukraine fired six missiles manufactured by the United States towards Bryansk. Confirmation came through a statement released by Russian news agencies, where the ministry adds that five of these missiles were shot down, while one was damaged.
According to the same statement, the fragments fell on land belonging to an unspecified military installation, causing a fire. The ministry also states that there were no damages or victims.
On the Ukrainian side there will still be no confirmation on the use of American ATACMS.
The alleged attack comes on the day that Vladimir Putin authorizes the widespread use of nuclear weapons. In practice, Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons if it is the target of an attack with conventional missiles, drones or other aircraft supported by a nuclear power.
This change of direction in the Ukraine war comes after US President Joe Biden lifted restrictions on Ukraine’s use of US-made long-range missiles to attack Russian territory.
