A joint operation carried out this Friday (29) by the Civil and Military police of Rio Grande do Sul resulted in the arrests of 11 people suspected of participating in the faction responsible for the death of Jackson Peixoto Rodrigues, who was murdered inside the Canoas State Penitentiary in last Saturday (23) and would be a member of a rival faction.
“Among the 11 arrested today we have the executors, people who programmed and organized this attack and other individuals involved in this criminal group”, said delegate Mário Souza, director of the State Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP). “All members of the criminal group participated indirectly or directly in the event at the prison,” he added.
Furthermore, the targets of the operation would also be responsible for another homicide against a faction rival, which occurred in the south zone of Porto Alegre in September. Videos obtained by the police demonstrate the faction’s modus operandi when committing the crime in the middle of the street, in broad daylight.
Rafael Teles da Silva, known as Sapo, was already in prison and is suspected of having ordered the two crimes via video calls. He is identified by the police as one of the leaders of this criminal faction and was transferred to the Brasília Federal Penitentiary on Thursday (28).
19 search and seizure warrants were also executed in Porto Alegre; Canoas, also in the metropolitan region of the capital and Gramado Xavier, in the central region of the state. Among the seizures are weapons and drones.
“In the home of one of the members of this leader’s criminal group, several boxes, manuals, controls and drone radio communicators were found,” says the delegate. From now on, the police will also work to suppress the faction in the neighborhoods where it operates in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.
Remember the case
Last Saturday (23), Jackson Peixoto Rodrigues died after being shot seven times inside the cell where he was held, at the Canoas State Penitentiary. According to police, another prisoner used a small window in the door to fire the shots. The main suspicion is that a drone took the weapon to the prison.
After the episode, the vice-governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Gabriel Souza, said that there was a security breach at the penitentiary and that security forces are investigating how the weapon entered the prison.
