The Criminal Police seized 86 cell phones and more than 130 chips, at the Central State Penitentiary, in Cuiabá (MT), last Thursday (28).
According to the Mato Grasso State Department of Public Security (Sesp-MT), 32 cell phones were found in one of the cells, which raised the suspicion that the place was used as a type of technical assistance for the devices in the prison.
In addition, 50 portions of marijuana and 20 portions of cocaine were seized, as well as headphones and device casings in the penitentiary unit.
The deputy secretary of Penitentiary Administration at Sesp-MT, delegate Vitor Hugo Bruzulato, ordered the immediate initiation of a procedure to investigate the circumstances surrounding the entry of the devices.
“All devices were seized and will undergo inspection by Politec. The content will be investigated by the Civil Judiciary Police, with due responsibility for those involved”, stated the delegate, through a note published by the department.
According to Bruzulato, the operation follows measures of the “Zero Tolerance to Organized Crime” program, launched by governor Mauro Mendes (União Brasil).
The delegate also informed that the operation plans to investigate possible connections between prisoners and crimes outside the penal units.
In total, in addition to the Rapid Intervention Group (GIR), Intelligence Center, Penitentiary Intelligence Coordination (Coinpen) and the unit’s staff, 100 police officers from the Special Operations Service (SOE) participated in the action.
