An 8-year-old child was attacked by a puma while returning from a waterfall trail in the Volta da Serra Sanctuary, in Chapada dos Veadeiros (GO). She was injured in the face. The child was accompanied by his parents and an employee from Fazenda Volta da Serra.

“As soon as the jaguar jumped on the child, his parents and the Farm employee interrupted the attack and the animal fled into the forest. The victim, injured in the face, received immediate treatment and was taken to the Alto Paraíso Municipal Hospital, with the support of the attraction’s operational team”, the farm said in a note.

According to the note, the responsible doctor requested the patient’s transfer “to a hospital unit with more complex support”. The Fire Department looked for an aircraft to carry out the transport, “which did not materialize due to the impossibility of night operations in the municipalities of Alto Paraíso and Formosa”. The child was transferred by ambulance to the Brasília Base Hospital.

A Visitation to the site is suspended pending investigation of the attack. “The management of the Sanctuary reinforces its commitment to the safety of visitors and employees, remaining available to provide comprehensive assistance to the victim and his family and to collaborate with the appropriate official procedures.”
