The ministry claims to be aware of Nunes’ disappearance and maintains contact with the family. Among the cases already confirmed, Antônio Hashitani, 25, stands out, who abandoned his studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUC-PR) to join a paramilitary group in the Bakhmut region as a volunteer.
The area, considered one of the most violent epicenters of the war, is where Hashitani lost his life last year. In 2022, two other deaths of Brazilians were officially announced. André Hack Bahi, aged 43, worked as a rescuer in the International Defense Legion of Ukraine.

Brazilians, in smaller numbers, also make up this legion, often motivated by personal convictions or the search for adventure in conflict zones.
