Presidente do Corinthians sofreu impeachment? Como foi a votação? image

This Monday (02/12), a voting meeting was scheduled to take place to decide whether or not Augusto Melo, president of Corinthians, would be temporarily removed from the club. However, an injunction suspended the vote. Like this, Augusto Melo remains president of Timão.

Voting would take place in the Parque São Jorge auditorium, in São Paulo. Hundreds of Corinthians fans went to the site and staged protests in support of Augusto.

How did the injunction happen?

The injunction was granted by judge Clara Maria Araújo Xavier, with a penalty of R$100,000 if it was not complied with. The court decision came out around 7pm, when the club’s advisors were already meeting, shortly before voting began.

Clara Maria Araújo Xavier gave the injunction based on an assessment by the Corinthians Ethics Committee, the body responsible for analyzing cases of violations of the Club’s Statutes, which gave an opinion with a recommendation that the board’s dismissal process be archived or suspended until completion of the investigation conducted by the Citizenship Protection Police Department (DPPC).

It was Augusto Melo who took the injunction to Parque São Jorge and handed it to the president of the Council, Romeu Tuma Jr, who read the content and announced the decision to suspend the meeting.

Therefore, the possibility of impeachment is ruled out at this time.

How was the document filed?

The document that resulted in the organization of the vote was filed on August 26th. With 19 pages, it asked for “succinct processing” and stuck mainly to Article 106, “b” and “d”, of the club’s Statute, in addition to Law 14,597/23, referring to the new General Sports Law, which provides on crimes of “Laundering” or concealment of assets.

Art. 106 – The following are grounds for requesting the dismissal of the President and/or Vice President:

b) having caused, through action or omission, considerable damage to the assets or image of Corinthians.

d) having violated, by action or omission, an express statutory norm.

On pages that detail recent events promoted by the current management, the request is based on grounds that aim to highlight possible problems and reckless conduct by management after evaluating the following cases:

– Interview with Rubens Gomes, known as Rubão, with Mesa Redonda, on TV Gazeta, when the former football director pointed out the beginning of distrust over the club’s contract with VaideBet.

– Possible “Orange” in VaideBet intermediation

– Statement by Alex Cassundé to the Police, refuting having acted as intermediary (businessman would have been the intermediary of the sponsorship contract between Corinthians and VaideBet)

– Disbandment of leaders, loss of sponsorship and moral damage

– Statement by Armando Mendonça, vice-president of Corinthians, to the Police, pointing out omissions by managers

– Augusto’s attack on a Cruzeiro fan, in Minas Gerais, damaging the image of the institution

In the request, advisors affirm Corinthians as a “victim of crimes committed by the directors themselves” and also reinforce the intention of obtaining for the club the due “compensation for the loss due to the erroneous payment to the ill-fated company that never intermediated the creation of the contract with the former sponsor”.
