General Valério Stumpf Trindade said he had fulfilled his “obligation” with democracy by being against the organization of a coup d’état to prevent the inauguration of (PT). In 2022, when the plan was drawn up, he was chief of the Army General Staff.
“Everything I did was with the knowledge of the Army High Command, aligned with the [então comandante] General Freire Gomes. There is very strong loyalty in the High Command”, he declared in an interview with the portal published this Thursday (5.dec.2024).
He was the target, before and after Lula’s inauguration, by Bolsonarists who called for military intervention. According to the publication, his daughter even heard that her father was a “traitor to the country”.
The general said it was “victim of unfulfilled attacks” your obligation. “I defended democracy in complex times. I am proud to have acted loyally to the Army commander and the Brazilian Army”, he stated.
Among the accusations attributed to him was that the general would be “informant” by STF (Supreme Federal Court) minister Alexandre de Moraes.
“As Chief of Staff at the time, I had contact with the Superior Electoral Court [TSE]then chaired by the minister [Alexandre de Moraes]. We were discussing methods to reinforce the security and transparency of electronic voting machines”, these.
“My dialogue was with the General Secretariat of the TSE. Then some people who didn’t know anything distorted everything. They fed the version that I would be an ‘informant’, a kind of ‘take and bring’, a criminal thing. That never happened. It is untrue and an attack on me. The contact was institutional”, he declared.
The campaign against Stumpf on social media was mentioned in the (Federal Police) regarding the coup d’état plan. In total, 37 people were indicted – including the former president (PL).
The report reads: “From that moment on, the modus operandi of the digital militia is used by the criminal organization to pressure, attack and expose the generals opposed to the coup d’état.”.
