The president () harshly criticized his government’s communications area this Friday (6) and promised changes.
“There is an error on the part of the government in the matter of communication and I am obliged to make the necessary corrections,” he stated.
Lula participated virtually in the closing session of the seminar “The Brazilian Reality and the Challenges of the Workers’ Party”, organized by the party in Brasília.
Lula even criticized himself for not talking to the press more. And he also pointed out flaws in the government’s digital communication area.
“I want to tell you that there is an error, a mistake on my part in communication. [secretário de Audiovisual, Ricardo] Stuckert often says ‘president, you are the greatest communicator in our party, you have to talk more’. And the truth is that I have not organized the press conferences, they have not been organized”, he stated.
Lula then added that it is necessary to start doing “things the way they need to be done”, because it will not be the government’s opponents who will speak well of the administration.
The area of communication has been the subject of criticism from allies since the first year of the Lula 3 government. There are questions about the fact that the administration has started to launch initiatives and programs that should have a major impact, particularly on Lula’s approval levels, but did not have the desired results.
Secom (Secretariat of Social Communication of the Presidency) is headed by Paulo Pimenta, a member close to President Lula and who enjoys the sympathy of First Lady Janja.
