LA Galaxy beats NY Red Bulls and wins MLS after 10 years

The LA Galaxy is the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) champion. The Los Angeles team defeated the NY Red Bulls 2-1, on Saturday night (7), at Dignity Health Sports Park, in Los Angeles, California.

Playing at home, the Galaxy opened the scoring with Joseph Paintsil in the 9th minute and doubled the score with Dejan Joveljić in the 13th minute of the first half. Sean Nealis scored for the Red Bulls in the 28th minute of the first half, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Galaxy from winning, as they won the league title again after 10 years.

With the victory, the Galaxy secured their sixth trophy. The club had already won the competition in 2002, 2005, 2011, 2012 and 2014.

The team finished second in the Western Conference and beat the Colorado Rapids in the quarterfinals, winning both matches.

In the semifinals, the Galaxy beat Minnesota United 6-2 and advanced to the Western Conference final. In the decision, the team defeated the Seattle Sounders 1-0.

Path of the NY Red Bulls

The New York Red Bulls did not have a good campaign in the first phase and finished in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. In the quarterfinals, the team eliminated Columbus Crew and, in the semifinals, beat local rival New York City 2-0.

In the Eastern Conference final, New York RB defeated Orlando City 1-0, with a goal from Andrés Reyes.
