Botafogo confirmed this Sunday (8) that they won the 2024 Brazilian Championship title.
With the triumph, the black-and-white team from Rio once again lifts the national cup after 29 years. The last victory was in 1995, beating Santos in the final.
The team was also champion in 1968, winning the Taça Brasil, when they beat Fortaleza in the decision.
In a 2010 resolution, the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) started to consider achievements obtained before 1971, which was considered, until then, the starting point of the Brazilian Championship.
The Brazilian Cup, played between 1959 and 1968, the Roberto Gomes Pedrosa Tournament, the former Rio-São Paulo, which included teams besides Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo between 1967 and 1970, and the Tournament of Champions, were equated to the competition. played in 1937 with six teams and won by Atlético Mineiro.
Palmeiras is the biggest winner of the Brazilian Championship, with 12 victories. Next come Santos and Flamengo, with eight each; Corinthians, with seven; and São Paulo, with six.
