Brussels – EU Migration Commissioner Magnus Brunner (ÖVP) has described the suspension of the processing of asylum applications for Syrians by several European states – including Austria – as “completely acceptable”. Brunner told Austrian journalists in Brussels on Tuesday that the UNHCR also considers this to be legally acceptable. Protection needs must be met. The further procedure is a matter for the member states.
